Requirements Second Wind requires that a user's machine have the standard Oracle client software installed. In particular, Second Wind requires that SQL*NET (or Net8, depending on the version of Oracle) be configured and Oracle Objects for OLE be installed. These are standard Oracle products and are shipped with each release of the Oracle DBMS. Architecture Second Wind is an Excel add-in. This means that from the user's perspective it is an additional set of features integrated into a pre-existing Microsoft Excel program. Second Wind is able to communicate with an Oracle DBMS by using the Oracle Libraries, which are automatically installed in a client machine when Oracle client software is installed. These client libraries contain all the information needed to connect to and manipulate the Oracle database using SQL*NET which is the standard by which Oracle Clients "speak" to Servers. The Oracle8 equivalent is called Net8 and will work identically.
Our Online Tour is a good place to start to get a better idea of how Second Wind actually functions. Additionally, at this time we are pleased to allow you to download a demonstration copy of Second Wind for evaluation purposes.
